What is the Pearson Curriculum?

What is the Pearson Curriculum?

The British Curriculum is ideal for families who value a holistic approach to education. It focuses on developing critical thinking, creativity, and social skills, rather than just memorization and rote learning. This curriculum aims to nurture well-rounded individuals who are equipped to participate fully in society, contributing to areas such as politics, economics, and decision-making.

With its emphasis on continuous assessment and flexible teaching, the British Curriculum supports students in becoming lifelong learners, ready to adapt and thrive in a globalized world.

What is the Pearson Curriculum?

Pearson Curriculum is a holistic, internationally recognized framework designed to prepare students for success in a rapidly changing world. It emphasizes critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication, while balancing rigorous academic foundations with real-world application. Through flexible instructional approaches and ongoing assessment, it helps students become lifelong learners who can adapt to diverse contexts and contribute meaningfully to society. This curriculum provides a broad and balanced education across various subjects, guiding students towards globally recognized qualifications such as GCSEs and A-Levels.

The curriculum emphasizes core subjects like Mathematics, English, and Science in the primary years, while also offering a wide range of other subjects, including the Arts and Humanities. As students advance, they have the opportunity to specialize in subjects that align with their interests and strengths, allowing them to excel in their chosen fields.

Structure and Key Stages

Flexibility and Assessment

Flexibility and Assessment

The Pearson Curriculum is divided into distinct stages known as 'Key Stages':

  1. Reception : For children aged 2 to 5, this stage focuses on play-based learning to develop early numeracy, literacy, and social skills.
  2. Key Stage 1 (KS1):

  • Year 1 : For ages 5 to 6, building foundational skills in core subjects.
  • Year 2 :  For ages 6 to 7, expanding on core subjects and introducing more complex concepts.

           3.   Key Stage 2 (KS2):

  • Year 3 : For ages 7 to 8, expanding on core subjects and introducing more complex concepts.
  • Year 4 : For ages 8 to 9, expanding on core subjects and introducing more complex concepts.
  • Year 5 : For ages 9 to 10, expanding on core subjects and introducing more complex concepts.
  • Year 6 : For ages 10 to 11, expanding on core subjects and introducing more complex concepts.

             4. Key Stage 3 (KS3):

  • Year 7 : For ages 11 to 12,  Broad subject choice, foundational GCSE/IGCSE-style exposure in some systems, developing study habits.
  • Year 8 : For ages 12 to 13,  Increasing depth across core and elective subjects, introductory research projects.
  • Year 9 : For ages 13 to 14, Readiness for KS4; more independent work, start of targeted progression planning.

Each Key Stage has well-defined goals, and students are assessed at the end of each stage to ensure they are meeting the required standards.

Flexibility and Assessment

The Pearson Curriculum is flexible in how it’s taught and assessed. Teachers tailor lessons to different learners, vary pacing, and mix in-person with online learning. Assessments include ongoing checks during lessons, end-of-unit tests, and diagnostic reviews to spot gaps. Students can show what they know through real-world projects, portfolios, and presentations, not just exams. Clear rubrics keep marking fair, and schools use assessment data to plan extra support or enrichment for each student.
