Preschool and Kindergarten students participate in an integrated Creative Arts program, which encompasses dance, movement, music, and visual arts. This program is taught in both the International and National Pathways. Students engage in a variety of Movement: The use of the body to move to music and express oneself, Create, Compose, and Choreograph: Using the dance elements of space, time, and energy to explore, improvise, and develop movement phrases, sequences and dances and Music Expression: The use of voice and instruments to create sounds
Music is a cornerstone of our school's educational experience, aiming to spark a love for music in each child. Students are guided to hone the skills necessary for complete expression in this vital art form through consistent music sessions. Additionally, music is seamlessly integrated into various units, serving as an interdisciplinary tool for communication and creativity. Students are exposed to a variety of music genres, cultures, and historical periods to enrich their musical knowledge.
For Grades 1 to 5 students, the music curriculum cultivates a well-rounded musical environment where they participate in singing, dancing, instrument playing, and games to foster an understanding of music fundamentals. This foundation allows students to explore new avenues of musical expression, learn to read music, and begin their musical journey. Performance opportunities empower students to showcase their progress and accomplishments.
In Grades 3 to 5, students embark on a progressive musical journey. Grade 3 focuses on developing recorder skills, choral singing harmoniously, literacy in music notation, and readiness for ensemble performances. In Grade 4, students can choose specialized ensemble programs such as band, strings, or choir, where they master instruments or vocal techniques in a collaborative setting. Those learning instruments delve deeper into music theory and instrument-specific skills for a comprehensive musical education. Grade 5 students have the opportunity to further refine their instrumental skills from the previous year.
The school's art program is thorough and immersive, involving students in a wide range of artistic experiences. They participate in specialized visual art classes, integrate art into their curriculum, and have access to various tools for personal projects. By studying artists and creating their own artwork, students grasp the significance of reflection, planning, and revision. The program fosters communication, skill enhancement, personal expression, cultural awareness, interdisciplinary connections, and creativity. Students are regarded as artists and are inspired to value art from various perspectives, exploring both practical and theoretical aspects of art and design. Regular reflection and assessment are prioritized, with families receiving progress updates periodically based on art standards.
The library serves as a central learning space where students can access resources to support their learning throughout the school day. It offers a wide range of online resources such as databases, e-books, audiobooks, and reading apps. The library also collaborates with teachers to provide curriculum support, enhance information literacy, and promote digital citizenship skills among students. The goals of the library program include fostering a love for literature, developing critical thinking skills, promoting ethical information use, and encouraging students to view the library as a valuable resource for personal growth.
The Physical Education program aims to provide students with a broad and balanced curriculum that develops their physical, social, knowledge, and understanding skills. Through authentic and meaningful opportunities, students are guided to enjoy and prepare for lifelong participation in sports and physical activities. The program focuses on teaching basic physical skills and concepts, encouraging challenges and risks in a safe environment, promoting positive interactions, fostering leadership skills, introducing fitness activities, and facilitating enjoyable yet competitive experiences. Students engage in various units across different skill levels and environments, including invasion games, challenge and leadership exercises, health-related fitness activities, net games, track and field athletics, striking and fielding games, gymnastics, and creative movement. The Physical Education program emphasizes analysis and reflection by using iPads for self and peer evaluation, encouraging students to assess their learning progress and identify areas for improvement.
